Program Overview

Enjoy creativity, connection, and Adirondack serenity at Great Camp Sagamore. Join quilters Pat and Terri Burdick, knitting instructor Jen McAvoy, and acclaimed Adirondack folk singer Peggy Lynn for an inspiring fiber arts retreat filled with comfort, craftsmanship, and community.

Designed for both quilters and knitters of all experience levels, this retreat offers the gift of uninterrupted studio time, optional skill-building workshops, and the freedom to work on whatever brings you joy—your current project, an unfinished treasure, or those quilts waiting patiently for their bindings. Participants are welcome to move between quilting and knitting activities as they wish.

The quilting workshop will explore the Tile & Grout Lap Quilt—a simple yet endlessly customizable pattern perfect for layer cakes, scraps, or a curated colorway. Knitters will have the opportunity to create a beautiful project with Jen’s guidance, learning new techniques and building confidence along the way.

Evenings bring creative energy and Adirondack warmth. Enjoy a trunk show, spontaneous demos, and a special musical program with Peggy Lynn celebrating quilting, craftswomen, and the Adirondacks. For those wishing to stretch their legs and soak in the wilderness, enjoy gentle walks, hikes, or canoe/kayak outings.

Come to unwind, create, and share in a welcoming community set among the historic structures, lakeside paths, and timeless beauty of Great Camp Sagamore.

Program Instructors

Pat Burdick

Started quilting over 20 years ago when her son wanted a log cabin quilt as a graduation gift. From there she started quilting for family members, friends and fundraisers. Many of her quilt designs feature Adirondack themes like native plants and animals. Pat has been involved with Great Camp Sagamore for many years, leading intergenerational camps as well as a work weekend volunteer.

Terri Burdick

A traditional arts and regional history enthusiast, she started her quilting journey alongside her sister Pat. They were tasked with designing a unique quilt for Sagamore’s annual fundraiser. Their quilt was a success that inspired Terri’s quilting journey, and she hasn’t stopped since.

Jen McAvoy

Jen has been knitting for 20 years.  It has become a hobby that she just can't put down.  She always has a knitting project with her.  Jenn is also an avid hiker.

Peggy Lynn

Peggy Lynn, singer, songwriter, author, and educator, brings an infectious enthusiasm to all her endeavors. Peggy ranges from folksy to blues with equal ease, alone or harmonizing with others. With a sultry, yet powerful alto voice, Peggy gives a clear message of the passion underlying her songs. While her style and range give meaning and emotion to all her work, her most powerful message is for the contributions and burdens of women.
