Your gift will help our National Historic Landmark expand programs that connect people to history, nature, and community.
We are committed to using every gift thoughtfully and responsibly. Your support helps us:
Offer more opportunities for people to reflect and connect in this unique space.

In 2025, we are celebrating
“50 Years of Saving Sagamore to Share Sagamore.”
All year we have been celebrating 50 Years of Saving Sagamore to Share Sagamore. This has been a milestone year with Sagamore launching a new scholarship based program for community leaders, hosting multiple new overnight programs, more than doubling the ways for people to visit for the day, and increasing visitation by 17%. Ultimately, more people were able to unplug and benefit from time spent with others in nature and history.
We are now building on our momentum by expanding programs for young people and the networks that support them, completing a new 5-year strategic plan, and creating additional avenues for people to interact with history.
The significance of 50 years…
In the Fall of 1975, people generous with their financial resources, time, and expertise, saved Sagamore. New York State purchased Sagamore from Syracuse University in 1975, and the State Constitution’s “Forever Wild” clause mandated the buildings be destroyed and that the area returned to its natural habitat.
Thankfully, the forethought, partnership, and enormous efforts of the newly formed Preservation League of New York State and two young idealist leaders of the nonprofit National Humanistic Center, Inc. ensured that Sagamore’s buildings remained standing. Together, they worked to transfer the property from the State, through the Preservation League, and onto the nonprofit we benefit from today.
Your contributions today support our stewardship of Sagamore so that we may continue welcoming others to explore, learn from, and become part of Sagamore’s history and authentic community.
